What drugs can affect an unborn baby?
Any kind of drug in general will hurt an unborn baby. Whether it's a common drug, an over the counter drug, a prescription drug, or an illegal drug it can and will hurt the unborn baby in many ways. Not only will they hurt the baby, but the mother as well.
How does alcohol affect a fetus?
Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs among pregnant women. This common, but dangerous drug harms a fetus severly in many ways. First off it is the leading cause for mental retardation. It can also cause the baby to have a low birth wieght, and a small head and body. The liver, brain, and heart will be damaged. Sometimes a baby will have a deformed face and limbs, and have an addiction to alcohol at birth. The baby will go through withdrawls at birth. It may even cause a miscarriage or<>SIDS.<
How do tobacco products affect a fetus?
Another common drug that is widely usedby prgnant women is tobacco. Tobacco products may not seem that bad, but it's just tobacco in these products. They have thousands of other harmful and dangerous chemicals in them. Using tobacco while pregnant can cause a miscarriage, early birth, a low birth weight, stillbirth, and a small body and head. After birth using tobacco can cause crib death, and occasionally it can cause the baby to have asthma, the mother on the other hand will have a lot of nausea/vomiting.
How do other substances harm the fetus?
Even prescription drugs affect babies, especially drugs like Accutane, Birth Control Pills, Tetracycline, and Tranquilizers. Accutane will cause the baby to have deformed organs, and birth defects. Birth control pills will cause birth defects, and deformed genitals to an unborn baby. Tetracycline gives the mother stomachaches and diarrhea. It will give a fetus discolored teeth, and abnormal bone growth. Tranquilizers often will make the mother sleepy, dizzy, confused, or give her a headache. But these give the fetus withdrawls at birth (addiction), and causes birth defects, deformed organs, and breathing difficulties.
Over-the-counter drugs like diet pills, pain killers, and vitamins A and D are even dangerous to the babies. Diet pills can cause birth defects, or even a miscarriage. Painkillers cause stillbirth, low birth weight, and birth defects. for the mother this causes a longer pregnancy, a longer labor, and a longer and more difficult delivery. Vitamins A and D can also causes birth defects.
If you think that the drugs already mentioned are hard on the baby, it gets worse. Illegal drugs are the worst posible thing for an unborn baby. Cocaine and crack cause miscarriages, a low birth weight, a small head and body, and withdrawls at birth (addiction). They also cause the baby to have damaged eyes, heart, kidneys, and genitals. Sometimes even SIDS . Speed can cause miscarriages, a low birth weight, a small haed and body. And after birth it causes addiction withdrawls, behavior problems, and SIDS. Heroinwill cause SIDS, addiction withdrawls, a low birth weight, and a small head and body. PCP and LSD will cause a miscarriage, damage to the brain, eyes, and ears, and behavior problems. Marijuana has been said not to affect the baby in certain stages, but it's also said to cause stillbirth , a low birth weight, and have a small head and body. Marijuana also can cause the fetus to have a damaged heart and nervous system.
How can all of this be avoided?
All of these problems can easily be avoided by having regular medical check ups with your doctor, reading labels on over-the-counter drugs, asking a doctor about drugs, and just stopping the use of drugs of all kinds. Remember that it's never to late in the pregnancy to stop using drugs, it will always increase the chances of having a healthier baby.
Accutane Drug used for treating acne.
Tetracycline Drug used for treating infections.
Tranquilizers Drug that slows the brain and nervous system.
SIDS Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Stillbirth When a baby is born dead.

Its a shame if you are asking this question for you'reself - i hope you are asking for advice to help some one else, not because you are in this position...
i agree with every one else, bit of a silly question being as ILLEGAL drugs are bad enough for you're own health, let alone the effects on an unborn baby that develops and grows from you're body and all the substances you take in.
If it is you that ios in this position, think you should seek help.

illegal drugs can do a lot of harm to an unborn baby, no one should use them, especially with a baby. but someone i know smoked marijuana a couple times while they were pregnant for the first couple weeks & it didn't do anything, so try not to worry about it, if i were you i would stop using drugs if you are & pray that your baby is o.k. & that it didn't harm him or her.
Good-Luck

Drugs can do all sorts of harm to your baby, it depends on what drugs you do on what will happen to your baby. A friend of mine smoked weed with both of her babies and they are both fine, but that shouldn't be a risk you are willing to take. That baby deserves to come out healthy with a clean bill of health. I'm not here to tell you what to do but all i can really tell you is i have a 1 year old son and i couldn't imagine doing anything that would have hurt him while i was pregnant, and being 9 months pregnant with my little girl i wouldn't do it to her either.

Erectile Dysfunction can be devastating to men, and unfortunately, millions of men suffer from the condition. Learn how to cure erectile dysfunction https://tr.im/R1i0M
If you go to the doctor to talk about the issue, you’re likely to get put on one or more of the popular medications used to treat the condition. While they can be effective (temporarily), these medications come with a raft of side effects, some of which are decidedly unpleasant. Even worse, these medications aren’t really a cure, they’re more like a temporary workaround.
Worst of all, they tend to be really expensive. Month after month, you’re having to pay to work around your condition. That’s what the Big Pharmaceutical companies want.

i think that is pretty obvious, birth defects, the baby craving for the drugs, small birth weight etc,but if the baby is born fine, then it doesnt end there, the damage will be as he/she grows older,a child should NEVER see a parent take drugs, cannibis in small amounts is legal apparently, how can anybody under the influence of any drug be responsible looking after a child?

every time i go to the doctor or hospital they do a urine test and test for drugs. obviously ive never been tested possitive but if you do they give you a warning(unless its at birth) but if you test possitive for trugs twice or at birth they imediately take your baby. you dont see him/her or anything its taken to get treated and get the drugs out of its system and then put for adoption. they didnt do this years ago, but thank god they do now. my cousin had a baby months early because of drugs, they let her keep him, after being in the hospital for a year and shes still messed up. she got pregnant again and they took the new baby. hope that helps!
