he will rebound, if not this whole society is in trouble image if your career was over cause of what you thought or said. reguardless if he used poor judgement.

What this situation is REALLY about most people are missing. It is not about Michael Richard's racism -- is about the double standard that blacks expect in America. If a black comedian uses the word "honky" or "cracker" nobody bats an eye because whites choose to not be offended by those terms. I could not care less if some black comic calls a white person a cracker or a honky. But blacks have chosen to create this taboo aura around the use of the word n i gg e r so that no one EXCEPT BLACKS CAN USE IT. Blacks call one another n i gg e r all day every day and no one is supposed to bat an eye. It is all right if blacks use it. But whites can't. Mexicans can't. Asians can't. Only blacks get to use that word. What if we as whites suddenly said that only WE can use words like, "graduate", "not guilty", "educated" and we said that blacks cannot use those words--only WE can. Blacks would be screaming within five minutes that we were racist. Yet when blacks choose to only get to use the word n i gg e r it is the EXACT same thing. That proves that blacks don't really mean it when they claim they want to be treated equally--they don't. They want SPECIAL treatment. In effect, they are saying, "WE can use this term but no one else can." Translated that means, "We want to have special privileges that others don't enjoy." Therefore in an ironic twist that only O.Henry would truly appreciate, it is the BLACK community that really demonstrates the most racism over this whole Michael Richards episode much more than Michael Richards does. Ironic huh?

^ To the person who posted above me.
You should be careful in your use of the word "Blacks", as you are using it in a way that refers to all of us(I'm Black). I personally hate the N word and don't use it, so please don't include me in your conversation.Furthermore I know of many fellow African Americans that feel the same way as I in regards to the N word.
The "Aura" was not created by us, we did not create the word to begin with. The word has a negative connotation to it, one that we (blacks) did not create.
I loved Michael Richards as Krammer, I have watched every single Seinfeld episode, and own all the dvd's as well. However, I was very disappointed in the way he acted, he could of at least said "shut up" . The fact that he snapped and started spouting racial stuff made me think it wasn't just a stupid slip of the tongue, but something he actually believed in within himself, and being heckled at just unleashed it.
When someone gets me angry I don't say stuff like "Cracker!", or any other racial slur, those things are the farthest things from my mind.
I feel Michael Richards' career received a hard blow, but he will be back.

Wow. His career is going to change. I was very disturbed by the video also. I liked his work as Krammer and now I feel very different about him. Mel Gibson too. So ugly. Granted the guys were heckling him, but there are always better ways to deal with hecklers. Very ugly stuff. He sounded very Klan like in his thinking - the whole hanging from a tree bit. Its one thing to call someone a N*gger but quite another to talk about lynching folks. I am very disappointed in him. The real him came through. Wow.

Michael's career will experience a change, for awhile. However, as I watched him of Letterman, I felt his regret and apologize were deeply felt and sincere.
I would suggest Michael go straight to the heart of the issue:
Go to black social agencies and talk with black leadership. To build bridges and a firm demonstration of his regret.
In a country that contains a majority of Christians, forgiveness is one of the greatest virtues that combats hatred.

Richards only did what probably every other heckled comedian would like to do. In fact, he did what MOST of us would like to do when we're harassed by blacks, teen-agers with spiked hair, bullies, or the other cretins of our society.
But we're afraid to call someone the "n" word, or tell them they look stupid with all that green spiked hair and tattoos, because we're afraid they'll retaliate.
His career isn't over. I don't even see why he felt the need to apologize, other than to clear his own conscience. I'm sure he felt bad about the things he said, but I'd guess he was coerced into a situation that ultimately caused him to 'snap'.
Why didn't the hecklers apologize? Because they're too damned full of themselves (and probably busy huddling with their lawyers trying to concoct some sort of racial lawsuit over this incident). The management of the comedy club should have thrown them out, as they were undoubtedly disturbing the other patrons who were there to see Richards perform.
I'm no racist, but I question why we white people are so intimidated by blacks who demean us, harass us, or threaten us just because they're black. As far as I'm concerned, they deserve the "n" word (just as "white trash" is an appropriate slur towards white people who are rebellious, rude, mean, tough, arrogant, violent, criminal, lazy, or useless human beings).
I applaud Richards for coming forward and offering his apology; he is a much better man than the cretins who heckled him, and then hid in the darkness of the audience. -RKO-

No in fact this will help him. Your career is over when no one pays attention to you. This will give him a boost albeit a negative one it will make him visible again. How he turns it is up to him.
