Thanksgiving is a day that we set aside here in America to give thanks to God for the bountiful blessings that He has bestowed upon us. It is the Harvest season and we also give thanks for a abundant harvest that we have. We give thanks for family, friends and this wonderful country that we live in.
The first Thanksgiving was when the Native Americans(Indians) and Pilgrims had a feast to celebrate the wonderful harvest that they had.

I would tell them that it commerates the Pilgrims survival of their first year in the New World when they came together with friendly native Americans to share from what was available in their larders and how years after we had either killed those same native Americans or had moved them to remote reservations, it became a nationally recognized holiday by some president or other (probably in an election year) and we have celebrated it annually ever since.

It's an American Holiday to celebrate the harvest that the pilgrims had when they arrived in America due to the fact that the Native americans took pity on them since they had no idea what they were doing and showed them how to hunt and plant the biggest staple (corn). Boy, I bet if those Natives knew then what they knew now, things would be different!
