My daughter is 12 weeks old and still sleeping in her moses bsket. My son is 20 months old and sleeps in a cot so instead of getting another cot for her we are thinking of getting him a bed. Should we get her a new mattress? His mattress is in perfect condition and the cover is removable so it can be washed.

I reused a matress and had no troubles at all. It was aired on a regular basis, turned and hoovered just as a matter of routine - as I do with all the matresses in the house. The covers were washed regularly and I had no qualms about my 3 children using the same. It was a good quality matress and never moulded, but then regular turning has helped with that and if I had thought for one minute that it was useless then I would have bought a new one. It was stored in plastic when it wasn't used but out of 7 years it's been on the go just over 6!
By the way - how have you managed to get your girl to lie in a moses basket all this time?! My boys never managed that length of time!
Hope the wee man enjoys his new bed!x

I bought each of my four children a new mattress even though I used the same cot. I don't know that is necessary but I do think it is a nice thing to do especially after all that dribbling, sneezing and throwing up that little people do. The mattress is probably also slightly moulded to your sons sleeping position, so for your darling daughters comfort alone I would say, yes, get her a new one. Oh and by the way, Congratulations!

If you're getting you re son a bed be-careful that he doesn't roll out of it or put something against the edge to prevent this but there is really no reason why you should get him a new mattress providing its clean (no stains or holes in it) and since the cover is removable this a good thing but make sure if you can afford it to get a spare cover.

Yes you should buy a new mattress, because mold and other bacteria can grow in the mattress. Here is a website that I found informative: www.babysake.com

If the mattress is clean and in stable condition it's going to be wonderful. as long as you employ a water-proof mattress protector around it besides. the toddler shouldn’t even are available in touch with the extremely mattress.

I did not worry to get a new mattress between my two. Like yours it was still in very good condition.

Good Luck.

Yes, do get a new mattress. It's not about just dirt or the lack thereof, but wear and tear. It may look perfect but it isn't, it's been used for 2 years. Every baby deserves a fresh, unused mattress to support that brand-new little spine.

New baby=New mattress. You've heard of "dust mites" yes, there are millions of them in all used mattresses. NO hand-me-downs for a new baby, except maybe furniture, crib, highchair etc...
