Are you Hispanic or attending an Hispanic party? What would be inappropriate about a pinata? There are some made for the occasion, although it is mostly a birthday theme.

I would think it would be fine to use a pinata for Christmas celebrations. Seems like the children would really enjoy the candy.

Hit an inatimate object and candy comes flying at you??? OF COURSE!! Pinatas are appropriate year round. Maybe you could Chritmas-fy it by getting a tree-shaped pinata, or NO! A Santa pinata! Oh my god, that would be so freaking awesome, I may steal your idea.

sounds like fun to me. what kind of pinata? i think santa would be good or maybe a donkey since mary rode into bethlehem on one. i just wouldn't get one that looks like Jesus. that would be more of an easter theme. i think the kids would love a pinata. who wouldn't like some candy?

Yes. Actually in Mexico there is a tradition during Christmas called "posada" where people simulate Joseph's asking for a place to stay where Virgin Mary were to give birth to Jesus. They sing a song and when they let them in they start a celebration which includes a piñata filled with candy.

That's a great idea - a good funny icebreaker for an adult gathering or a good way to keep a large gathering of kids occupied for a little while. Fill it with mini candy canes and small Christmas toys.

it is definitly not traditional in any way
im not even sure where the tradition of pinyatas come from...but they have nothing to do with christmas
christmas is about celebrating the birth of christ...a pinata seems completly irrelevent from that. maybe it depends where you live as to how people would respond to it...i would find it very strange as well as slightly offensive.

sure, they make them in all kinds of shapes so they can be used for any occasion, when we do it for Christmas we give the kids a little bag so they can put the candy in and we add gingerbread cookies, oranges and a little toy like bubbles or a yoyo something they can play with until they can open the big gifts,it doesn't matter how you do it be creative and remember its the thought of giving that counts.
happy holidays:)
