Several years ago I had twenty-three relatives over for Thanksgiving dinner. After everyone ate dinner and finished commenting on what a good meal it was, one of my sister-in-laws, while at the dinner table, paused, then agreed it was delicious but cranberry sauce was missing. I had two different kinds in the fridge ready to be served in dishes. When asked why she did not ask for some during the meal or before the meal, she said she did not want to be rude. I said, if so, etiquette rules that she should not have said anything. My solution was never to invite that particular sister-in-law over to my house for dinner...and she is still the rudest person I have ever met.

My biggest Thanksgiving disaster is about to happen tomorrow. I didn't get a job in time to make money. The state didn't provide me with enough food stamps to feed my 3 children and I still have an injury to my back. All I have in the kitchen is a can of Saurcrout and mushrooms. Absolutely nothing else. No money and no means to travel. This will be the worst Thanksgiving I or my family will have ever suffered. This question sucks and so does the Holidays. Happy Thanksgiving. I can prevent this by going into Shoprite and walking out with a cart like some people do and we will have a great feast!

It must be terribly difficult being perfect as you are. I just bet the best blessing that sister-in-law ever got was when you quit inviting her over. You dear are the rudest person I ever heard of in my life. YOU forgot to put one of the standard must have foods on the table and decide it is her fault for not asking. you are totally so rude and inconsiderate I bet it was a pleasure not to have to suffer your company even if it only is once a year.

Always ask your guests to please let you know if they need or want anything. If something they want (i.e. a different salad dressing) isn't on the table maybe you have some in the fridge. That way they know that they can ask for something they do not see and not embarrass you or themselves.

Well, you did ask, "How could I have prevented it"?

Next time check the fridge one last time before serving the meal.

I dropped the turkey on the floor out of the oven. I picked it up and washed it off and did serve it to my family and guess.

I don't know about your family, but mine is out spoken. We say if we are missing something. Don't be petty, invite her to your family gatherings. She might not have known how your family is. Her family might be softer spoken. Give her another chance.
