Unfortunately self hate was one of the residues from the cruelty of our past. I hate it too. Some people have no idea how much Africans and African Americans have in common.

Good question. Many will speculate that the rift between Africans and African-Americans is a result of how some African-Americans resent Africans for their ancestors' part in the slave trade. However it can also be argued that when in contact with African-Americans, Africans tend to be aloof and elitist seeming not to care much for African-Americans. I've heard it said that Africans don't believe we are 'African enough'. Who knows (and nobody does)?

Personally, I've had varied experiences with Africans. I had a African friend in college, and she was as sweet as pie; I knew a African-Austrian brother and sister -- they, too, were very nice. Then, too, through my mother I've come to know an African couple who have been very rude and can kiss my *** (although that may have had more to do with them being from one of the royal houses of Nigeria).

I also believe that we should look on one another as brothers and sisters (especially in the U.S.; the solidarity is necessary for us to 'come up' the way we should). Hopefully, enough of us will read these posts to make the difference.

I hope blacks don't do that, but I think it's a try for blacks (African Americans) and Africans (African Americans) to come together. There is a slight gap between blacks and Africans like getting to understand and know each other. Thinking people are just live out in the desert instead of the city is a limited way of seeing people. You're right, people shouldn't follow and use that one image against you. Others and We are both separate branches of thee 5th generation (one in America, one in Africa, there's also Brazil, Caribbean, Haiti, Britain and more) since the Diaspora or Colonial Slave Trade invasion towards Africa.

I don't know. Thats ignorance at its highest. I lived in Nashville for many years and I always thought that one of the stupidest things I had seen while living there was black people generalizing african immigrants, hatians, or others of african descent that weren't born here. But of course those that did that generally discriminated against everyone. Still a sad thing to see.

It's a similar with some Asian-American kids. They would refer the newly immgrigated Asians as FOBs (fresh off the boat). The immigrants are not yet adjusted to the new culture, have problems with speaking English, etc. Because the Asians from Asia seem awkward, some Asian-Americans think they are superior than than the ones from their homeland. Not only is that type of attitude arrogant, but it is also indicates a lack of empathy and appreciation for what they have; especially when many of their parents have struggled to find a new home and live in America.

Most Africans I have met have a superiority complex.. They act as if African Americans are disdainful.... Help me !!!!!!

The discrimination goes both ways, some Africans veiw Blacks as closer to white actually. And why not? African Americans have been bastardized from Africa in a sence, and the two have little to do with each other.

On the other hand blacks only see africans as what europians make them out to be; savages who run around naked, catch aids and circumsise women. it's a real F$%@ up cycle.

heres my question, what are you?

No discrimination is justified, there could never be a reason why you should want to or like to treat another human being bad because of different culture, race, or religion.

People seem to think that because you are from Africa-or another foreign country they are above you. But in the end we are the same-we all are brothers and sister, and we should love and appreciate on another.

It seems like everyone has someone else they discriminate against. Aren't we ALL brothers and sisters?
