Cypress Bowl in North Vancouver is good and it's really close to downtown Vancouver so there should be lots of choices and prices of hotels close by. ( Although anything right downtown in Vancouver will be fairly expensive ) The local mountains aren't open yet but we're getting a lot of precipitation in Vancouver lately and the temperature is expected to drop so there should be snow on the mountains soon. Also, if you stay in Vancouver or North Vancouver you are only about 11/2 hours from Whistler so you could always hop on the bus or train and head up there for a day trip.
* The Crystal Lodge in Whistler that patrick r suggests would be an excellent choice if you could get a room. The rates are reasonable (by Whistler standards!) It's nice and comfortable, and its in a great location right in the heart of Whistler Village so all the nightlife and action is nearby.

If you can't find accommodation in Whistler, try looking for accommodation in Squamish. It's just a half hour away. If you want to stay in Vancouver, you can snowboard at Cypress Bowl, Grouse Mountain or Seymour Mountain. All are very close and easily accessible.
