When I first started dating my boyfriend, I baked a tray of cookies for Thanksgiving and brought it over for dinner. The tray was GONE by the end of the day and now it's become tradition for my cookies around the holidays. But it's not always about buying things or doing things for someone. Obviously do what your mom would tell you, be respectful, polite. Engage in conversation, dress appropriately, and be yourself! :) Oh and ask if they'd like help in the kitchen, mothers really seem to like that.

Take a bouquet of fall flowers and have your boyfriend explain to her BEFORE you get there that you have had surgery and that you will have to be VERY careful about what you eat. That way no surprises at mealtime. Choose the soft foods - mashed potatos w/gravy, jello, etc -- you can smoosh them in your mouth and just swallow. Try not to actually chew - you can cause damage to the area where the teeth used to be.

What impressed my mother and endeared my husband to her was his offering to help do the dishes and not taking no for an answer. He basically begged to help clean up when she politely told him "no, I don't need any help".
It never hurts to offer to help someone do the yucky job of clean up.
You might bring a nice hostess gift, like flowers or a candle or a bottle of wine. If your boyfriends mother really does think you think you are better then them, I could see her thinking your bringing food to the holiday was your way of saying her food wasn't going to be good enough.

By being yourself, quiet, polite, mature, smile, sure of yourself and being relaxed, naturally, no need to impress, if you try too hard, you'll definitely ruin things.
Good luck!

Be honest and yourself, trying to be something you are not will lead to tension and you will most likely embarrass yourself.
Don't try to hard.
Good Luck!
