Suppose a spaceship is moving at 0.993c. How many times slower does the spaceship's clock appear to be running than a "stationary" clock? I have to use the Lorentz factor somehow...

The formula is T=T(o) sqroot (1-v*v/c*c). The stuff in parenthesis should be 1 - v squared divided by c squared. Sorry, but the computer won't let me enter mathematical equations.

T is the total time to the mover
T(o) is the total time according to the observer ("outside")
v = velocity
c = speed of light

Let c(sq) = c * c, or c squared

Since you give .993c as your speed, you get .993c(sq)/c(sq), or about .996. All you are concerned is a ratio, the comparison of the speed with the speed of light, then square the answer.

Your formula should now read:
T=T(o) sqroot (1-.996), subtract to get
T=T(o) sqroot (.0035),
T=T(o) .05921

You aren't given a time, so you could use, say T(o) = 1 hour,
which means the time "felt" by the one in motion = .05921 hours, or a little over 3.55 minutes. Hope this helps.

If you want to know how many times slower, then just divide
1/0.118 = 8.47 times slower

0.993c is 99.3% of the speed of light.
