On Windows XP there are two kinds of accounts: administrator and limited. An administrator is full control of the computer and can set and change passwords, see anyones else login accounts and documents (not their e-mail), can install programs, and do other things.

A limited user is - well - limited. Limited accounts are used to keep people who are not familiar with PCs from accidently deleting or install something that they should not. Can also be used to restrict computer usage by minors and others.

Most computer experts recommend that you run your computer using limited accounts, and only switch to an admin account when you need to make changes. Reduce the odds that you can accidently damage your computer by doing something stupid. (And no, it is not fool-proof. They keep making better fools.)

Windows is structured in such away as to restrict and protect the operating system from shall we say human nature. To do this a multi tier system of accounts has been created where an Administrator can specify the access for every user of the network or pc. The Administrator does this by issuing users access rights within the system. So in effect the Administrator is ultimately responsible for how the system is used and maintained.

In Windows XP an Administrative Account is any account that has full control and access to the PC. So these accounts can change the password of other users, delete any file, see any file, install programs etc.

The limited account is an account that is prohibited from changing most computer settings and deleting important files. They cannot install software or hardware, but can access programs that have already been installed on the computer. They can change their own picture and password but can't do much else.

An administrative account is one that gives all rights to the user to access, delete, read, create, modify any file of the Operating System. The user has to be logged on as a user having with administrator rights. To create a user having administrative rights, goto User Accounts from Control Panel and select the name of te the user, Click on Properties, Click on Group Membership Tab and select the type of account as Administrator from the drop down menu.

On windows XP you have 2 account types, admin, and limited. with an Admin account you can access all of the computer. with a limited account, you are restricted form certain things.
