all rap music isn't the same. Rap isn't just about ghettos. people that think so don't know anything about rap and should not speak on it.
I always felt that the term "ghetto" is misused and not something to be glorified. many of those nowadays have no idea what the word means and it is thrown around so much by the ignorant that it seems its original intended meaning is lost.

I think they glorify themselves and wrong doings more then anything else ghetto is not a place anymore as far as I see it it's more of a state of mine ghetto is used in the suburbs as well as where the true ghetto's are many folks play the rolls of what they want to believe the life of others are with clothes the way they talk walk and dance based on what they see in media or from people they have been exposed to any place that a lot of people live and most are not happy or not receiving the benefit of the opportunities that all must have and they face lives of violence drugs gangs parents that cannot give them the environment that provides they safety health education and hope as in true ghettos is not to be glorify in any way

I think that 9 times out of 10 rappers express their rappage as a form of poetry telling and showing other people where they have came from. They want people to know the hardships and that if you are an anspiring artist, to keep your dreams up especially if you live in the projects/ghettos. Some rappers may be fake and go off the deep end, but a true rapper can name true and real events. How do we know that they are fake? We don't. All we can do is trust out insticts, and hope that the material life does not lie in Hollywood.

They say they're like reporters simply reporting what goes on in a specific area of their world, but the ghetto is their fanbase. It's all they can talk about. Not only that but Black people have a feeling of obligation to african american culture and being gutter traditionally. What would they rap about? Business? Taking trips? who could relate to those types of things? Not a lot that would buy his CD, and I suppose that's all that matters when it comes to that. I wouldn't want to be ghetto. Sometimes people simply expect it of black people to be that even when they're trying not to be, so in a way it's like the world, including blacks, forces the stereotype on everyone who would try to break the stereotype for themselves.

they glorify the ghetto cause they have nothing to do...*sarcasm*
Look... just like the move "Malibu's Most Wanted", you draw inspiration from your your surroundings. If it happens to be the ghetto and the projects, so be it... but make sure it is all credible, and you aren't just talkin about stuff you saw or heard that happened while you were sittin on your stoop....

I don't think the ghettos are being glorified, but they are reinforcing the idea they are a victimized people, which in turn makes those who buy into it think they have no power to get out of it, unless they are handed something on a platter.

Yup, it's glorified. It can be a good or a bad thing depending on the context and who you are speaking with.
Now, here's a good example of ghetto glorified - Young Joc's It's Goin Down
