I depo shot puts a hormone into your body that tricks your brain to believing that you are pregnant. Thats why you gain weight and DON'T ovulate!! Your body believes there is no reason to release an egg so your body gets use to not ovulating. Once you are off the shot you body goes through a lot of changes and ovulating isn't one of them. Sure, some women can get pregnant just fine after they get off, but SOME means only 4% of woman. The average amount of babies born to women who have been on the shot for 5+ years are are slim. 23% chance of ever having a baby. Its tough, women need to think twice about whats more convenient to them: No period always sounds nice but is it worth preventing a child you so desperately want?

everyone's body is different. I personally didn't gain any weight and didn't lose either while on it. I did however gain almost 40 pounds while on the pill. I went off depo this february and still trying to conceive, I do know that it can take up to one year. Some people have other problems they claim the shot caused them to be infertile. I'm not sure if I believe that all birth control is bad stuff really. Condoms are probable the best route to take because their aren't any chemicals that we are pumping into our bodies.

The depo isn't a good means of regulating your cycle. It puts it on pause for months at a time and you'll often have more trouble getting pregnant afterward and it sounds like you want to get pregnant.
Try oral contraceptives. I've heard of a few people who could only get pregnant ON birth control.
My friend took depo, and it really made her gain alot of weight. and she got terrible cramps during that time of the month but that was it because of the shot, no bleeding.

It only took one shot of depo for me to not want it anymore. It thins your uterus lining so no eggs can implant themselves. Also, I had no periods at all so I was always questioning whether I could be pregnant or not. Its an awful lot of pregnancy tests to buy lol. And depending on your body, my doctor says it can take up to 1 1/2 years to be able to conceive again so if you want to be able to get pregnant right after stopping your birth control method, I'd warn against this shot. Good luck.

i could assume which you're desirable. I had the dep. shot only as quickly as and that i ended up having a 'era' for 2 months promptly after the 1st one (it exchange into so rattling stressful) so i desperate to provide up. i think of the sole reason i did not get any issues is with the aid of the fact I went promptly onto the pill to provide up the bleeding so there exchange into consistently a sequence volume of hormones

After taking it for about 2 years (I think) I started spotting and getting major pms at like week 8 or 9. So, I decided to get off it. I started the pill again as soon as I could. So, I didn't get any negative effects for going off it. If it weren't for the fact that I was starting to get spotting and pmsing really early, I would still be on it. My boyfriend called it the "Happy Shot" and wants me to start it up again. But, I'm trying to keep my body drug free, so I'm not on anything bc at the moment.

Do not get the shot. The risk and side effects are too high. I was on the shot for 2 years or so, and though I conceived fine, my hair fell out and I got bad headaches and gained like 20 pounds.

I loved being on the depo shot. No periods at all in that 3 years. I never got pregnant on the shot. Once i stopped taking it i became pregnant within a year.
My period returned that month that i didn't go back for the next shot.

My girlfriend did it in college with no bad experiences. She actually lost weight, didn't ahev her period, and was a generally happy person. when she got off it she went back to regular cycles in about 3 months and last i heard she was married and had a kid within a year of getting off it. I guess it is like the pill birth control, different for everyone!

NO! I took the shot for a year, I cried pretty much nonstop for that year!! I don't know why I ever took it that long... I guess beacause I didn't have any cycle during that time.
