yes I saw some for sale in a book shop in an airport once. They were little plastic things which you put your thumb on and they had two wings going out to the sides to hold the book open.

It's called a book rack or holder and you can usually find them in bookstores and cooking stores. They hold the book open to a particular point for hands free reading.

You may also want to look at ebook readers. I know the old Rocket Ebook Reader and it's successor, the REB-1100, had easy to use one-handed controls and you could choose which hand. Flip pages with a flick of the thumb. It also had large print and a back lit screen so you were never in light too poor to read.

Here's a quick fix.

Not wanting to buy any special piece of equipment I often use a 12" metal ruler that won't bend, and use it horizontally to hold down flat both sides of the book. This system works well with most books. The stubborn hardcovers with tight binding need to be stretched by folding the covers backwards before they will lay flat.

Yes. In bookstores such as "Books a Million" (I don't know if they have a store where you live or not) they have these thumb attachments that help both pages open with the use of one hand. They also have other things like lap stands that can hold the pages, as well stands that hold the entire book.

I have a bookmark which might help. It has three prongs. The two outside prongs fit behind the pages to either side and hold the book open. Another one I've seen might be easier, though--it's simply a piece of leather with a weight on either side, so you can lay it on top of the book pages and hold them open. That way, you wouldn't have to struggle when changing pages.

There is a 'book stand' available usually for holding a cookery book open. Possibly on sale in a hardware shop, book shop or library. Social Services have aids for people with difficulties. Good luck.

Check out Levenger products. They have reading related items and one of them is a weight to keep a book open. Might be a bit cumbersome. But they also have lap desks with little straps for the books.

If you try Barnes and Nobles or Borders, one of them had a book stand that you would lay the book flat open in and on the sides it had little clips or hooks (can't remember) to keep the book open. I almost bought one for myself for travel, so I remember seeing them have one.
