This isn't exactly the answer to your question, but I read this the other day and it re-defined my idea of whether or not I even wanted to be a "success." I think you'll like it. I'm paraphrasing it, but Lou Holtz said it.
"If you are a success, when you die, it's over.
If you are significant, it's because you have helped other people become successful, and that goes on for many lifetimes."
I've decided I'd much rather be thought of as significant than successful, and I sat down and wrote notes to a couple people who had been significant in my life.

When I was younger I would have defined it as achieving a goal I'd aimed for. Now I'm much older, I would define success as getting a good night's sleep without waking! I hope you achieve your personal definition of the word - good luck!

When I am enjoying my life as a career woman, wife, and mother serving God. Have a pretty penny of money in the bank, and don't have to live pay check to pay check and if i walk on a car lot, I would get treated better if I wanted to look at a Mercedes as a black person.

The word SUCCESS has no straight letter in it, so is the road to success!
It's also written in my profile under "about me".

success
is when you accept where you are,
and are content with where you're headed
it's realizing who you are (a wonderful, powerful individual)
and believing in who you're going to become (more....better)
success
is when you see the good in everyone
and when you
are
a conduit of good
for everyone
success
is when you can fight down your own darkness...
lift yourself up into happiness...
and help others do the same.
