what is the most fun thing to do in las vegas with the kids?

I live 60 miles outside of Las Vegas and I have taken my 6 and 7 year olds maybe 10 times for quick, overnight trips. I would recommend the Orleans, Texas Station, Boulder Station, Sun Coast, or South Point. They all have bowling alleys, arcades, movie theaters, and kids play area (Kids Tyme in the Coasts, forget the name in the Stations) where you can drop the kids off for a few hours while you have fun, or just take a break. The best rooms are at the South Point, but all are acceptable 3 star hotels. The food is also cheaper in these hotels, even room service is priced fairly. But these hotels are not on the Strip (even though South Point is on Las Vegas Boulevard, it's 5 miles south). If you won't have a car and must stay on the Strip I'd recommend Excalibur or Circus Circus, although Excalibur will be more expensive and is better for teens than it is for little kids (they have a few cool virtual reality rides). Circus is kinda dumpy and the rooms are worse than any other property I have mentioned, but the indoor amusement park and the game arcade make it worth seeing with kids.

I would suggest that there are more appropriate places to take kids on vacation than Las Vegas. The strip is full of suggestive advertising and leaflets for strippers. No matter how much the visitors bureau is trying to promote it as a family vacation - Vegas is a place people go to gamble, get quick marriages and divorces and see risque shows. Ultimately I think a kid would be bored pretty quick in Vegas - not to mention exposed unnecessarily to smut.

Wait and take them to celebrate their 21st birthdays in Vegas instead and take the kids to Disney, the Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns or some other family-appropriate destination.
