Because most of them (not all) seem to be more racist than us white folk crackers. They need to get over the stupid slave thing...it was wrong, it was abolished and it's over now. But they keep blaming us and slavery for oppressing them and keeping them in the ghetto. They really just need to get off their butts and work for it. Same goes for rap music....they can't even speak English and all they talk about is h0's and their blingage and putting diamonds on their teeth (how gay is that?) and yet a fraternity got in deep trouble for hosting a "in the hood party" featuring all that stuff as the dress code. The whole thing is stupid. There are whites, there is white trash. There is hispanics and there are mexicans, there are ******* and there are black people. It's all about how you treat your life.

This is in reponse to "Nintendo8888" I just want to clarify what i think this person is asking if it is sooo wrong and offensive when a white person says n!gger, then shouldn't it be considered the same meaning when another black person says it? The meaning of the word does not change just because a person of the same race says it!! Although i can kinda understand the point, i am Italian and if another Italian person calls me "wop" or something along thos elines, we understand each other, although if someone else calls me "wop" i would be offended, it is really stupid and hard to understand, you just sort of have to be in that boat to understand the whole thing!! i just answer a question where some one wrote "
"I don't mind being called black or African American. What irks me is being called "colored" or the "n" word. Colored may seem harmless to some people but it hurts me because that is what they used to call us during the racist times. I wasn't born back then but if a white person calls me that it feels like a slap on the face." Now i consider THAT a slap in the face, i want to say first off that i would never use that word, i think it is horrible, however it has the same meaning weather a white person or a black person uses it, it should be SLAP IN THE FACE REGARDLESS OF IF A WHITE PERSON OR A BLACK PERSON SAYS IT!! I thought this comment to be a little racist!! Why should you be offended by what one white person says and not by what one black person says.. does anyone get my point??

The answer goes back to motive. When black people use it, it is generally in the same context as when two white guys who haven't seen each other in a while go up to each other and say, "How's it going you son-of-a-b***h." It is an insult in its normal form, but what they are saying is that they can say anything to each other and they are such good friends that they can insult each other and no offense is taken, or that they know the other will forgive immediately. So when black people use it it is in that same context.
For the longest time white people were using it to "put blacks in their place," that is to subjugate them to white people. To say they weren't as good as white people. Now when you use it (assuming you aren't racist against black people) you may have the first motive in mind (knowing you are friends and that he would forgive you), but not every black person around knows that. They don't know you at all, and that term has been used so much in the past to subjugate black people to white people that often others will assume you are trying to do the same. You may not be, but you appear to be. And your true motive doesn't really matter if everyone percieves you as a racist, no one would believe you even if you tried to argue that you weren't a racist. That is why they can use it and you (assuming you are white, or at least not black) cannot.

They got that black slavery in mind when they think of that. Trust me, I don't like being called the "N" bomb from anyone (even my own race), but who REALLY knows if white people actually invented that word or even knew what that word meant back then? Come on, I have to assume that in the 17th to 18th century the English language was very limited to come up with words like that to insult the slaves. The "N" word was most likely created by hate-mongers in the 1950's -'60's, used in black slavery movies and high-lighted and adopted by black people in the 70's up to now. (Mostly from black-spoliation music, movies, and TV shows) But I'm really stumped on why some Black people choose to call/insult other Black people with that word (and be comfortable with it!), but raise holy hell when another person of another race says it. This is so freaking confusing, it make my head hurt to think about it.

First off...to respond to Nintendo8...Black people could and DID own other Black people...most famously in Louisiana, where they could EARN their freedom thereby allowing them to own property - which included slaves.
Secondly...I personally don't understand this, and have asked those around me not to use this "affectionate" nickname in my presence. However the closest I can come to explaining this is how women take the word 'B*tch' and make it a word of power and pride...wearing shirts and owning bumper stickers with the adage "I'm not A b*tch I'm THE b*tch" and other such trifles. I'm not sure why this is so either...As far as I can understand it's a message to those who have oppressed them in the past "I'm not who I was before...you may try to demean me, but I'm going to wear this as a badge of honor. You may try to name me, but you will never DEFINE me."

i don't understand this either! I understand that they would be angry because my ancestor's owned their ancestors but in the same since black's owned black's then too. As far as them being oppressed...heck we are the ones oppressed now! I live in the south and most of the blacks here are more racists than the whites!

THANK YOU!!! I would like to know why too. The thing is they may still hold a grudge against all Caucasion folks cuz of slavery in the past, but people need to learn how to let go and move on.

Why do you assume all black people use that word on themselves? I was never raised to use that word and I don't like to be referred to that by anyone for any reason. None of my friends call me that. I was raised in predominantly white areas and if someone called me that it wasn't meant for friendship. It was meant malicious. Educated black people don't speak like that.
