i have been seeing someone now for about 5 months we have been getting on until i recieve a phone call from a woman saying she is his wife of 5yrs and they have kids together. he denies it and says it is one of his old mates. I know he was married but he told me he has been divorced for about 12months. i am trying to find out if he is divorced as this is not the type relationship i want if he is? what sites can i go on tofind this out?

for free? no. but you can get a copy of the divorce order from the court if you have a case number and the case name. usually Smith vs Smith with BF456324 (example) and usually this will only cost maybe a dollar or so from the court where is was filed at. if he has kids with her, it's the same case number as the custody, support and visitation order.

I think you will know if he's married. Does he stay over or just make a sharp exit at the end of the night? Does he only see you at certain times or days of the week? If you've been going out for 5 months have you not been to his house? If your worried then it strikes me you have doubts about his honesty. Ask him outright and if still in doubt ask to see the divorce papers!

You can search the indexes at the Family Records Centre to find a marriage in his name - this is easiest done online using www.findmypast.com (stupid name change, why did they do it??) Once you know her name, and if you have found evidence of their marriage, you can apply to the Principal Registry, Decree Absolute Section for a ten year search. This will cost you though but it may be worth it. Of course the other answerer is quite correct, it would be much better if he would show you his decree absolute.
Alternatively, if this woman is serious, let her show you proof of her marriage to your partner. It could be she is his ex but is just jealous of him having a new relationship.

Why don't you tell him that the phone call has really concerned and bothered you...and that you really would appreciate seeing the divorce decree to set your mind at ease.
If he cares at all...and is being honest...he won't mind.
If he's cheating...and tries being evasive about the decree...then you need to dump him and move on.

Well you will first have to find out what city they got married...
Go to that court house of that city and they can pull out records under his name and hers... It doesn't cost much, maybe under $20 bucks.
