I read this in "Our Game," by John Thorn:
Douglass Wallop put it nicely:
Saturday morning and hurtling from the house with a glove buttoned over his belt and a bat over his shoulder, rushing to the nearest vacant lot, perhaps the nearest alley, where the other guys were gathering, a place where it would always be spring. For him, baseball would always have the sound and look and smell of that morning and of other mornings just like it. Only by an accident of chance would he find himself, in the years to come, up in the grandstand, looking on. But for a quirk of fate, he himself would be down on that field; it would be his likeness on the television screen and his name in the newspaper high on the list of .300 hitters. He was a fan, but a fan only incidentally. He was, first and always, himself a baseball player.
...for my perspective, baseball is what connects me to my great-grandfather, whom I never met, and the child and young man I was, whom I shall never meet again. And for all its intricacies, just the simple acts of hitting, catching, throwing, and running are more beautiful to me than all the verse and prose that have been poured over the game.
PS Curling is boring too but soooo fun!

Baseball is a thinking-person's game, like the others said, there is lot more going on that is immediately obvious. Every single pitch is a well-planned event, add a base-runner or two, it changes everything, add an out or two, everything changes again. Pinch-hitting, lefties on lefties, save situations, what's not to love? Not even a penalty shot or shoot out in hockey can compare to a walk-off homerun. Football may be American's passion once a week for a few weeks in the fall, but baseball is America's past-time every day all summer long.

I'm not American, but I do live here in the USA so I guess America loves baseball because it's like a tradition for them. But I do know that most Americans prefer to watch and play football.

Baseball in these recent years has lost its integrity due to the drug usage. However there is a lot to baseball that the average person misses. The talent it takes to throw 90mph pitches at least 100 a game is amazing. Baseball is a sport that requires more concentration and you have to be on your toes at all times. I think with any sport you really cant gain appreciation until you have played it and not drunk in your back yard lol.

I understand how you see the game. It is slow paced but it s more of a strategic game that any one player can make a huge difference. In the action sports it s team on team while in baseball the game starts with 2 players the pitcher and the batter. Personally I love baseball but then again can hardly ever stop my mind from thinking and different situations in life and games.

The History behind the game, the skill...both physical and mental. The game that goes on via signs that are not obvious to the general viewer. A good catcher.....knowing that Pitching and defense is everything...Chicks who know baseball dig the fast ball versus the long ball. The sound of a well hit ball off a wood bat. It's not a fast action game, but the sight of a well placed "nasty" curve, or a fast ball that the batter just can't catch up to is sweet stuff.

Please don't try speaking for Canada - I'm Canadian, and I LOVE baseball. It's far from boring for anyone who actually understands the sport.
You want boring? Try CFL football - I can't believe anyone would even watch the Grey Cup. I'd rather watch poker or darts than that sorry excuse for football.
Americans love baseball because it's a great sport.

I think it is just everyone own personal belief on what they like, some people here in American don't like baseball, some do. Baseball is an American tradition, just like hockey is to Canada, and rugby and polo is to England.
