If you are referring to the 1939 movie with Judy Garland as "the first" you should know that there were several Wizard of Oz movies before the very famous 1939 version, including a 1910 version with Bebe Daniels (a famous silent actress, who might best be remembered today from her role in "42nd Street") and a 1925 version that was very different from the story you and I know today.
You should check them both out sometime!

The Wizard of Oz was a classic and I cannot think of anyone else playing Dorothy as good as Judy Garland did...no one else can even come close to singing Over The Rainbow with the emotion That she did either. So I would have to say I prefer the original one...

The Wizard of Oz was perfect. Its one of the greatest films of all time. The message is spiritual and timeless.
I'm a big Michael Jackson and Diana Ross fan, but the Wiz was not good. However, the Wiz soundtrack is incredible, and the songs are amazing. Leena Horne gave a moving performance of the song "If you Believe".

As far as I know, there's been only one Wizard of Oz made-- the one with Diana Ross was called "The Wiz".
If these are the two you are comparing, come on----NO comparison. The Wizard of Oz is a classic...."The Wiz"? straight to DVD

As sequels go it was pretty poor. The Wiz with michael jackson was also atrocious. The animated one was bad too. I hear the new musical Wicked is brilliant though.

first one was brillant a classic 2nd one was cr*p no where near as good as the first
