It could be that the dsl is not the problem. Other reasons the internet might slow----viruses or your hard drive is overloaded.

Check with your service provider, perhaps they've implemented a cap on your connection or on all their dsl connections.

When we used DSL several years ago, it was horrendously slow and the company kept blaming it on the lines coming into the home. Turned out it was their equipment. We switched to cable and have had zero problems. We now have the extreme high speed and we get speeds equal to and sometimes better than T1. We also have 3 direct and 5 wireless connections for the 8 computer (soon to be 9) systems on our home network without any problem with speed for any of them. Our only slow down is during maintenance periods which usually happen very early in the a.m. and for which I'm usually the only one up to experience it.

DSL reports is a great site that lets you test it out yourself!

All the instructions are there but essentially you want to pick a site to test against that is fairly close. You are testing the speed of your machine to the server doing the test. This means all the networks in between. If you chose one in say Italy and you are in the US then it would be very poor.

Go to tools and then speedtest and try to pick something either on your DSL network or in your state. If you see poor performance on the test call the DSL provider and ask them for THEIR test server (I assure you they have one). If the test still sucks tell them to fix it.

Unfortunately not all DSL providers are created equal so if the dsl service is really bad you can switch providers which you can also find at dsl reports :)

hope that helps.

Try one of the many speed checkers already mentioned, if it is running slow, you can often get it back to normal speed by resetting the dsl modem, if its an external box given to you or bought from your isp, you can most easily do this by unplugging its power cord from the wall and waiting about 30 seconds or so and then plugging it back in, it will take a few minutes to reset after you plug it back in.

Mine became doing the comparable ingredient as we talk and that i merely had to re-initiate my laptop and re-set my modem and router. This solved my challenge, yet this would now not be the comparable challenge as you're having. My internet became working somewhat gradual too nonetheless. It became worse than if I had dial up. desire you get it discovered.
