No, it would be out of the question for me not to learn their language or their culture. I would assimilate into their culture and only practice my own culture and language in the privacy of my own home.

NO!!!!!!!!!! I would only expect to be accepted if i made an effort to learn the language and customs of that country. I would still celebrate where I came from. But i WOULD NOT EXPECT the new country to change to suit me

If I moved to another country, I would make every effort to learn about their customs (while still keeping mine) and to learn their language so I can communicate with people.

What about military families that are shipped all over the planet? And they're NOT "celebrity millionaires": Some military families move EVERY 3-4 years. The kids don't have a "hometown" nor do they have a "real class from which to graduate". They get their "roots yanked up every 3-4 years" and have absolutely NO say in the matter whatsoever. My dad was a high ranking naval officer, and we didn't move but ONCE due to his "playing the higher ups". However, I saw kids that were shuffled ALL over this planet, and adapted. When looking back, now I see WHY my parents discouraged us from forming "friendships" with other military family kids. They'd be leaving once you got to really 'know them'. And "fair"? Life isn't always fair, just look around the mess that the world is in currently........

No, I wouldn't expect to be accepted but that doesn't matter. I'd try hard to be a good citizen- get educated, work, pay taxes and obey the law. That's all I could do and feel good about myself and if that's not good enough for the natives to accept me, screw them; I'm under no obligation to live up to their expectations as they have no right to impose anything on me.
