First Mel Gibson and now Michael Richards have made headlines over racial/anti-semitic slurs, who will be next? Mel Gibson became agitated after he was stopped on Pacific Coast Highway and told he was to be detained for drunk driving in Malibu. He went into a fit yelling "You mother f****r. I'm going to f*** you." , which was directed at a deputy, "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." , after saying that Mel asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?", and he also managed in that night to offend women by saying, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar ****?", to a female sargeant who passed him in the hall as he was being booked. Michael Richards, best known as Krammer from Seinfield, went off on a racial tyriad while performing at The Laugh Factory in LA. The camera's caught these remarks, "He's a n*gger! He's a n*gger! He's a n*gger! A n*gger, look, there's a n*gger!", among others. Why is there a sudden explosion of celebs using hate speech?

I think it's something in the water in L.A.!
I am a caucasian woman who was dumbstruck at what I heard and saw!
My god, after what I saw on TMZ.com of Michael Richards, I was literally ready to throw up! Whatever could POSSIBLY make someone act that way?? That was more than just "a mistake". A mistake like that comes from somewhere deep inside the person and his true colours showed through. I am sickened and extremely saddened by all these recent events.
It is almost the Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza season and let's all remember that we are all HUMAN BEINGS and, as such, deserve to be treated with respect.
I think Michael Richards' apology is a form of "denial", he kept saying he wasn't a racist, yet I don't believe he could SAY those words in a voice filled with such HATE and RAGE without being a racist. I don't doubt that HE BELIEVES he's not a racist because he is in denial, but I think his words and actions speak the truth.
I find it appalling that he claims the reason he exploded was because he was being "heckled". I'm sure that in his many years as a comedian, he has been heckled in the past without such a horrific reaction on his part. As well, I am certain that some of those hecklers in the past have been white and yet he didn't say anything angry and hateful (that made it into the news anyway) about them. This is why I believe it WAS racist in content.
I'd also like to add that I think that what Jerry Seinfeld did last night was to be admired. He forced Michael Richards to confront the issue and make a public apology. Jerry has a lot of class and did this in a very delicate and dignifed manner. He managed to show that he was disgusted with his friend and his sentiments, while still managing to stand behind him. I was also very impressed with the fact that, when the audience in the Letterman show began laughing, he told them "don't laugh, it's not funny". He didn't seem to care about his "image" as much as others, since he risked ticking off an entire audience. He is confident in himself, his career, and his beliefs. KUDOS

Mel and Richards are "celebrities" and in the spotlight so when they make these remarks its heard around the world within hours.
I think we should stop putting "celebrities" on pedestals and making their words seem more valuable than others.
You know how many people probably make these remarks on a daily basis. Just because a celebrity said it doesn't make it any worse.
They were both wrong for saying it but if we weren't so Hollywood obsessed then these comments could have gone unheard, but I guess we can't just sweep problems under the rug so maybe its good that it's out in the open.
I hate when things like this happen because then you can feel the rip in society and for a few days it becomes US AGAINST THEM!!!

Mel Gibson is not the first to rant anti-Semitic slurs, the Rev.
Jesse Jackson has also verbalized anti-semitic quotes
referring to Jews, many years ago and it didn't affect his political
aspiration. Bigots are found in all walks of life not just in
entertainment world. Jews are always being maligned and it seems
to pass quickly, but some of us remember the pain as if it was
happening now.....

it extremely is amazingly a consumer-friendly element thrown at jews by utilising anti-semites, satirically, that they are not probably semitic. even if DNA study has shown that around eighty-one hundred% of jewish dna in ALL jewish populations is center-eastern.... that includes Lidvaks, Italkin, Beta Israel or perhaps the Lemba of South Africa. of direction there will be different genetic fabric yet in 3000 years of hstory that must be unavoidable. keep in mind there are only approximately 14 million jews interior the international, a drop interior the sea so they seem to be a extremely small usa.... yet what a rustic eh? i'm no longer Jewish yet have countless admire for the Jewish human beings and much of their way of existence.

Unfortunately this is an all too common occurrence. I don't know why it's been happening as of late. I think that it's a disgrace, to say the least.
Have a lovely rest of the day. Happy Early Thanksgiving.

These situations make me sick and embarrassed for the human race. I cannot believe when situations like this happen. I also hate it when I see rappers spewing the N word like it is nothing or speaking racial/anti-sematic slurs. I have never understood the motivation behind the hate. I could never hate someone for the color of their skin or their religious beliefs, but it happens all of the time sadly.

I think they just flip out and lose control. They've probably been drinking and drugging for years, like most of Hollywood, and after thirty or fourty years of that life style your brain kind of goes. I'm surprised this kind of stuff doesn't happen more often. I'm not making excuses for them, it's awful.
