Its a bit like civilazation, and age of empires combined. You control one faction in the world, and you can play from an ancient times setting all the way to a futuristic setting where the weapons are like out of command and conquer

I'm pretty sure you're talking about Empire Earth, but another good strategy game is Rise of Nations. There's another one from the same makers that is set in a fantasy world thats pretty awesome, or at least the demo was.

Age of The Empire 3 is a game I grew up with. I had loads of fun playing this for very very long hours. In my opinion, this game is amazing. It has fantastic graphics and lot of new and cool features and upgrades which added more excitement and entertainment in the game.
It's the best game of its category.

Not answearing question but for a true classic try starcraft and starcraft: broodwars. Both well ahead of there time and aspects still being used in modern gaming!!
