how do i figure out which audio codec i'm missing?

Question

videos on flashplayer sometimes won't play sound (like nothing on youtube will play sound, as well as other places). someone suggested that i might be misisng an audio codec. how do i find which one i'm missing and how do i get it back?

any help would be really appreciated. thanks!

oh and my speakers are working fine otherwise.

Usually your browser should report what codec is missing on your system when you try playing file that require it and then offer you a download link to it.
