I was wondering ABOUT how often does a newborn (1-2 weeks) require feeding? The hospital told me every 3-4 hours when using formula and 2-3 hours with breastmilk. Then, about how much does the baby eat at a time (how many ounces). My daughter seems to drink about 4 ounces every 1 1/2 hours. Is that too much for a 7lbs baby?

Sorry....i'm just new at this and i don't see her Dr. till tomorrow.

Thanks for all your answers!!

My son was about the same as your daughter at that age... he was so hungry even at the hospital, so they told us to just give him more... she will let you know how much she needs... I wouldn't limit how much she eats. They go through all kinds of growth spurts. So she might eat a lot less sometimes, and eat a lot more sometimes, and then average out other times.... but my son was on a 2 hr schedule for quite a while and he would eat around 4 oz. many times. Your doctor will be able to go over how many ounces exactly she should be taking in, and will check her weight and height to make sure she's on track. But I think this sounds normal. My son was 9lbs 10oz at birth, so he was a big baby... but has always been on track with his growth.

Goodluck, and don't worry, you are doing a great job :) Congrats on your new baby girl :) They are amazing :)

She's fine. That's normal. As long as she isn't spitting up a lot or having a lot of gas. She might just be a hungry little baby. I breast fed and I don't think my daughters ever left the breast. lol. They were feeding non stop all the time. I sometimes had to give a bottle just to get a break. Remember, that they also like the sucking. It's a comfort/security/soothing thing. If she's spitting up then I would try a pacifier because she may just want the sucking. I had to try many different nipples before I found a pacifier that worked for each one. That sounds normal to me though. New mom's are so cute I just love it! Congratulations and Take care...

Your baby is going to eat however much your baby needs. You can give her more formula than 4 ounces, especially if she is eating that often. Also, you might want to check with your mother on this. My mom had me giving both my babies cereal with formula. She made sure to not put it in their bottle so they understand the difference between food and drink. Make it very thin the first time you do this. She will be full and happy. It will also give you atleast 4 hours in between feeding times. Good luck and GOD bless you.

Anonnie, they are in a position to grant theirs up too whilst on the tip of the term so i detect that an excuse of inconveniences extra. they have a factor and as that one link Darrin delivered out, the Church observed it too. in certainty many do. purely because of the fact Supa has a link the place that one would not experience they're nicely worth asserting. who's she to come back to a style? Many are asserting it. in the scientific container too this is stated. What an fool as though that link closes the controversy. Why is it diverse, this is a existence, to assert it rather isn't any longer in basic terms because of the fact it desires help is to assert older ones on air help, or kidney help, are no longer a existence. the certainty that it grows and survives with that help shows this is a existence. of direction we don't prefer to run around and kill infants that we see and can carry that would horrified human beings, inspite of the undeniable fact that some are doing that with aborted infants born alive. We even have had some stay with help. maybe some think of they could desire to die purely because of the fact they have been to be aborted. They do have a factor as grim because it sounds. the two are a existence exciting comments. good positioned up

I was a new mom about 8 months ago and worried that I wasn't feeding enough or overfeeding....One thing I learned is that when the baby is hungry, the baby will eat....If the baby isn't hungry, the baby won't eat....Really, that's the truth...They know what they want, when they want and how much...it's just one of those things.... I thought my little boy was a little piglet and he would be enormous....turns out, that's not the case.....you and your baby will be fine....

thats fine to feed the baby that much. If she dont want it she will not drink it. If she keeps spitting up your feeding her to much! Im a new mom (delivered on 10/26) and I was confused at first too, but he really dont drink the food he dont want!
