I like Jimmy Garrison. He is the pulsing bass behind a lot of John Coltrane's great music.

Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead is super creative and original.

Paul McCartney is the most underrated, not for his skills, but for his ideas and the flow of his lines.

The best bass player that I saw live would be John Patitucci. Roy Haynes was on drums. Most of the night Haynes would bend the timing, Patitucci followed him and really made them a mind blowing team.

The funkiest bass player I've seen live is Chris Wood from Medeski, Martin, and Wood. Scolfield was on guitar.

Most skilled players are Victor Woonton, Jaco Pastorious, and Charles Mingus.

I like Charlie Haden because he plays great stuff in situations most bass players wouldn't know where to begin.
