My laptop worked fine and could detect the netgear wireless router that I bought several months ago. All of a suddent it does not detect anymore and I now need to be wired to get to the net. What's going on? I suspect it's a virus and before I re-install the OS on the laptop, I was wondering if you had any suggestion as to what to do (I did several thorough virus scans etc. did not find anything).

Any suggestions?

It might be the router. Did you try restarting the router, unpluging it and pluging it back in, making sure the wireless is still activated through the firmware, reseting it to factory defaults.

Does it detect other wireless networks, just not yours?

Also, you can try running a different virus checking software. Sometimes viruses are written specifically to avoid detection by certain programs. Avast and AVG are two great free programs. Avast has a scan that runs when you reboot to make sure none of your system files are corrupted. Or running some spyware or malware scanners.

Check the ZyXel router is broadcasting the SSID. If it isn't then turn it on. Then your laptop will find your router and you can connect. You can then turn off SSID broadcast. I hope you have other security like WPA or WEP set up on the router.

did you try right click>repair. click> start> Connect to> Show all connections, now right click the wireless > repair. If that did not work try resetting the router, unplug it for a count of ten, the plug back in.... Wait for it to reboot, now try repair on your computer connection. Good luck!
