I guess it just depends on who your buying it for... significant other it probably could be considered as impersonal...but then again if you buy you significant other a victoria sectet certificate it might be a bit better. I have never been the type to by clothing for girlfriends so since that it what they want i do gift cards. although it is good to do jewelry also. As for kids well half the time they dont really care so a gift card is perfect. Parents, bros, sisters, well i guess you just use your best judgement.

Gift cards rock! They let people get what they want. If you want, wrap them in a creative way like put it in a frame or an empty ornament (I've seen them at Wal-Mart and the dollar store) and you can decorate and make it a little more personal. A personal card is a nice touch as well.

Have you ever seen the gift cards that are Visa or Mastercards? You can usually get them in a mall or at a bank. They are nice because you can use them wherever a place takes credit cards, and that gives the recipient the freedom of shopping where they like to shop.

Depends on who you're shopping for. Gift cards are great for coworkers, since you may not know their precise taste, and teenagers who like to do their own shopping. I almost never buy gift cards for immediate family unless they request one. My sister just bought a new house, for example, so this year she gets a gift card so she can buy something for her house.

Not a good idea. Too impersonal and worse than cash because a gift card limits choices. I you do not have time to shop cash may be OK. If you don't know what the person wants inquire on the QT with his/her relatives and friends.

I think gift cards are terrific, they allow the receiver to get what they would like, and saves time and stress on the giver of the gift!

If it's for someone you know would rather buy their own stuff then get something they may not like and have to pretend they do, then yes! Gift cards are awesome. I especially like them because I get to go shopping for something I like (which is fun), plus I'm not using my own money (which is EXTRA fun).

Jeez...you just may as well hand them the cash. anyway I heard that some thieves are actually hiking the numbers off the back of the cards, waiting a couple of days and then going on line with the numbers to buy stuff.
