Dig a hole in the ground. Put the helmet upside down in it. Run the rubber tubing from the bottom of the helmet to the edge of hole. Stake plastic over hole. Place a rock in the middle of the plastic so that the dip is right over the helmet. Put wet materials, saltwater, coconut, etc into hole and let the sun heat up the hole. Moisture will condense on the bottom of the plastic, run down to the helmet and you drink the water through the tube.

If you have to use everything, use the wood and matches to heat things up and get it to evaporate faster. You can put the coke in as one of the moisture laden items. (You can even urinate in the pit to add moisture.) The filter can be arranged so that the water drips through it to avoid any sand or dirt in the water.

It is called a solar still.

Why go to that much trouble.

Dig a hole. Place the metal helmet at the bottom of it. Spread the plastic sheet on top and seal it around the sides with sand/dirt (or rocks if any) and place a small amount of weight in the center so it makes a small downward indent.

Now open the coconut and drink the water in there and eat the moist coconut meat. The next morning lift a corner of the plastic sheet and remove helmet and drink the water. Reposition helmet in hole, cover again and repeat each morning.

Works great.

I'm not sure whether the asker means that the pipes are insulated with rubber tubing or whether these have been used in place of the pipes themselves. If they are getting longer then it seems that they are not fit for the job. Assuming that they have been used in the Central Heating Pipes then my advice would be to do the flollowing. 1) If you must carry on using the CH then stop using that radiator. Shut of BOTH valves to stop the passage of water through the rad and the pipes leading up to it. This will help to reduce the damage to the pipes and the likelihood of a burst pipe. 2) Get the pipes changed to either copper or PEX type.(speedfit or Hep2o etc). The 'plumber' who did this work could be looking at a criminal neglegence charge if anyone in the house was injured as a result. I personally know of a similar situation where a builder was investigated for criminal neglegence when a badly fitted marble fireplace came off a wall nearly killing a little girl. She was hit but made a full recovery thanks to our wonderful NHS.
