Solve: 2x + 1 = 5x/3

2x + 1 = 5x/3
6x + 3 = 5x
1x + 3 = 0
1x = -3
x = -3

Hmm-m-m, not to hard a problem...

2X + 1 = 5X / 3

Multiply both sides by 3 to get rid of that fraction on the right side.

6X + 3 = 5X

Transpose the 5X to the other side of the equal sign making it negative...

6X - 5X + 3 = 0

Now, transpose the +3 to the other side of the equal sign...
that also makes it negative...

So

6X - 5X = -3

and

X = - 3

multiply both sides by 3
6x+3=5x
x=-3

have not had algebra in fifty years but thats my guess
