If you look for something bad you will find it... every country has racists... you will only have a miserable time if you go out there expecting to a victim of that.... my family moved to The Netherlands and I had the same fears that you have... my sister and I were the first and only black people in our neighborhood and school...
The best thing you can do for yourself is learn the language... that way you can also appreciate the good things that are said to you.... at least that worked for us... try it!!
Wishing you the best!

i should think that the overall tolerance should be fine, although in may, i was just in berlin and northern germany. there are a lot of people from all over the world now in germany and i wouldn't go in with the attitude that someone will call you names. you might actually project some sort of resentment and then really get some where otherwise no one might have bothered. my daughter is of asian descend and no one called her names. a positive attitude and friendliness should always get you far. of course also common sense of where to go at night applies for anybody.
but to answer your first question, i have been away from germany now for almost 10 years and i don't know any current racist names.
should you encounter someone stupid after all, just try to be the better person and ignore them. i have received wired comments for my daughter here in canada. you never know.

Hi. I believe that you should go to Germany with an open mind and don't allow yourself to be drawn into the racist's taunts and games. Unfortunately wherever you go there will be racists, and it's better that you don't understand what they are saying; you can't get drawn in to a response.. which is worse! Most Germans are just normal everyday people. They won't care what you look like or what religion you are. Just go and have a good time.

Hi. It would be a shame if you remember your visit as a time spent listening for insults. Try not to worry, the West Germans are a tolerant and sophisticated people. The story in the East is not as good however, and it is probably stories of unpleasant racist attitudes in the East that have created your anxiety.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
I think the worse thing is that your experiences have taught you to expect racism.
Maybe they will be average, tolerant people and will not find the need to use racist comments at all.
Just have a great time, it's there problem if they are ignorant not yours.

one ought to extremely end out of your question which you "have a great venture" with the Germans and are "flipping impolite." in case you're prepared to choose an entire usa in step with some undesirable stories, you fulfill the definition of a racist. in case you may extremely no longer be perceived that way, then you definately ought to keep in mind that each and each community includes stable human beings, undesirable human beings, and each little thing in between.

A real tricky one and my heart really goes out to you, even though I cannot imagine. I suggest you try to get in touch with the local sort of authorities for that area to see what their policies are and whether they can give you any more assistance than u might find here.
Remember YOU ARE WHAT YOU ARE, NOT WHAT ANYONE THINKS OF YOU OR CALLS YOU.
If they have a problem then that is it.................
IT IS THEIR PROBLEM.

I think you have a very low expectation for German people.
I doubt that you have a problem when you visit.
People may stare at you if you're dressed differently, or if you look different from them, but noone is going to shout profanity at you.
It's not socially acceptable to shout profanity at others.
I doubt if you have any problem at all.

My cousin actually lives in Cologne and she always goes on about how bad the people are. She says violence and crime are really bad there so maybe there would be a bit of racial prejudice?
