my boyfriend is really into warhammer. i dont know anything about it really. Did one certain person make this game up? i want to get him something really special for christmas, but dont really understand which armies and stuff he has. anyone have any ides? and i dont want to give him a gift card.

The Warhammer miniatures games are produced by a company called Games Workshop. They have some direct outlet stores around the country, as well as numerous local game stores which are members of their affiliates program.
Your first option should be to find out what army(ies) he plays. If you don't want to ask him directly, try getting in contact with someone he plays with regularly, or if he plays at a local game store, try contacting the owner/employees. Either of these two groups should be able to tell you what army(ies) he plays, and possibly even offer some recommendations on additional pieces that he might need/want/enjoy.
If neither of those options are feasible, ask him what he'd like. I'd guess he'd appreciate a "non-surprise" gift that was just what he was looking for, and be glad that you were interested enough in his hobby to ask him.

It's a set of miniatures games (with lead figurines that you paint) and conduct fantasy or futuristic battles with. They're made by a British company called Games Workshop. Problem is, there's several games that go under the "Warhammer" label and even if you knew which game he played, there's such a variety of figurines that it would be tough to say what he'd really want. Since you paint the figs, you may want to get him some paints or painting supplies (available at hobby shops), but even then he'll probably have what he needs. If you're willing to ask him what he wants that would be a tremendous help then you could either go to a hobby shop or online gaming store for what he wants.

there is a kickstarter project could be a cheap way to get him some cool Stuff that you can be sure he does not have. and it would be a total surprise.

ask him what type he is into, 40k, LOTR etc. Go into a gamesworkshop and get him something from there thay are usually very helpful
