There's nothing you can do without leaving any track of it. You should be honest with him and tell him that you're going to put a program such as CyberNanny on there, and have him tell you the password to the computer--because I assume you bought it for him, if he's young enough for you to want to track him.

If the problem is he will not give the password to you, you may be able to change it. When the computer is starting up, keep hitting the "F8" key until you see a screen that looks like a windows desktop with the icons and stuff. Then tic the "Start" button on the bottom of the screen. Find a button called "Conrol Panel", when that window appears tic on the Users icon and change the password to something that you know. And make yourself the administrator on that computer.

Assuming that your son is under the age of 18, living under your roof and that you purchased the computer either in part or in full, and that you have a Internet connection that you're either paying for it or that is under your name, tell him that a stipulation of him having that computer and Internet access is that you must have access to it, there are also any number of programs that you can buy and services that you can subscribe to that would keep track of what he does on line, I would recommend iBoss: http://www.iphantom.com/iBossProduct.html
Also lay down ground rules for his Internet use, and discuss what you think is appropriate and not appropriate, check out this website also: http://www.cyberwise.ca/epic/internet/incyby-cybj.nsf/en/uz00113e.html
I hope I don't offend you having no children of my own, but if I did these things are definitely what I would do, but that's just my opinion, the internet can be a dangerous place

Don't worry about invading his privacy, its his home, its your house. Just tell him to remove the password and never put another on, or he loses his computer. He is doing something he shouldn't be doing and he is hiding it. You're the parent and you have the right to know what he is doing online and everywhere else. As a parent its your duty to protect him.

As soon as you get his password - go into Control Panel - Users - and make yourself an Administrator and your son as a limited user. That way you'll have a little more control on what he does on the pc.

Well at my school, they gave all of us (the middle schoolers) laptops. and then they got something called network support, where they can watch what were doing on their computers. I don't know how they got that, so maybe go somewhere like bestbuy, or some computer store and see if they know anything about that.

Always remember you are the "Parent!"
Try some of these and forget about "his" privacy!
