The neocon belief is that America has a mandate to spread our vision of democracy to the unenlightened, at the end of a gun barrel if necessary. Another neocon value is utter and complete support of Israel, so Saddam's financial payments to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers would have been something to stop, too.
Having read the link to the Clinton Iraqi Freedom plan, I think Clinton's idea was better.
OK, look, we ALL agree that Iraq and the world would be better off without Saddam. The question is, how do we achieve that? Clinton's concept was to work with Iraqi expatriates both inside and outside the country to help them foment an overthrow of Saddam and establish a democratic government. Bush's plan was to send in 150,000 troops, some bombers and cruise missiles, blow the place to bits, then give it to the Iraqis and help them rebuild it.
Would either plan have worked? I don't know. But I know Bush's plan does not seem to be working. And Clinton's plan might take forever and achieve nothing. We take big risks when we go meddling in other nations' business.

If Iraq was a peaceful dictatorship that caused us no harm, we wouldn't care if they remained a dictatorship for the rest of time. After the Twin Towers were bombed we had to show them that we won't just sit still and let them destroy property and murder Americans.
We knew that the training ground and the finances were provided by Saddam. Maybe you noticed that we haven't had any bombings here in America since we clobbered Saddam and his training camps.
Of course, all anti-Americans claim we want oil - - - - or that we're fighting Muslims to protect Israel. It's not the oil - - it's not Israel. It is the bombing of American embassies, ships, the Towers. Go by the facts, not the bad-mouthing of those who hate America because we are the strongest.

No outside Bush's little circle of friends actually knows the real reason we are in Iraq. The reasons have changed a number of times. We deserve the truth.

I have heard so many different explanations that I have no idea anymore. I believe it was to bring democracy, yes, to a country that never asked for our help.

You do know what neocon means, right? You're not trying to use it to refer to all Republicans, are you?
