he lies to avoid conflict. for example, if he wants time off work he will lie about the reason (someone will end up dieing instead of him just wanting vacation).

This is a coping mechinizim he learned from his mother... she does the same thing only he doesn't realize that he is doing it also.

I am tired of it, because I know that he is lieing because he is SOOOO very bad at it. he lies about such stupid things as taking out the trash (saying that he did when he did not). using the bowflex, (saying that he did yet it's still in the exact same setup as I used it)

in short, I guess I could just say he has the lieing capablites of an 8 year old. he lies even though the truth is obvious. an ideas for dealing with this?

Once the habit has formed, it's really difficult to break. So, just try confronting him every time you see it to find out if he'll try to stop.

I wouldn't say that your boyfriend is telling white lies - saying that someone died when they didn't is a huge lie. Those things always tend to come back on you. How can you stay with someone who lies to you all the time - how do you know if he is faithful?? Is he truthful where he goes?? Does he really care about you and your interests?? These are all questions I would be wanting to ask him - but because he lies - you will never get the truth. You need to leave him - these aren't coping mechanisms - it's called being a deceitful person. Unfortunately, this man and his mother - are going to end up hurting you in the long run :(

The worst situation is dealilng with a liar. You get to the point you never know what is truth or just another lie. You must insist it stop or move on to someone who has integrtiy, don't waste your time if you don't see a change. Let him know the outcome if he does not change.

Yes don't. I had a bf that did the same thing. I hate liars. There is no point in it and they never stop. I eventually dumped him after 3 yrs and am so much happier since.

Do the same thing in return and see how he reacts to it. If he lies then lie right back to him.

Time for him to grow up.

He is showing you a lack of respect. He will lose you in the end if he won't change his ways, at least toward you. Tell him so.

I think if he lies about the little things what else has he lied about ? that would be my next question. I think you need to re-evaluate your relationship. Good luck and god bless and happy thanksgiving.

Mine does this all the time and my reaction is to get very angry. Of course that doesn't help because he gets defensive. I guess it is best to pick your battles if he can't seem to stop lying.
