I love it. I think it is either the following day after Thanksgiving or on that Saturday. I believe it is sponsored by adbusters.com. Down with mindless consumerism. Make life about ideas rather than things.

Hey, why not donate the money you'd have spent to charity?

Salvation Army, local food banks, St. Jude's Hospital, Operation Gratitude (or other veteran charities) are good places that help people.

My conservative family was never big on buying lots of stuff for Xmas - or any other time, either, but always spent on charity. My wife's liberal family spends lots and lots on stuff, but rarely thinks about charitable donations. Hmmm.....

Hadn't heard of it. Sounds great! The way things are now, the holiday should be called Merry Materialism or Happy Conspicuous Consumerism--except it's not so happy is it when the bills come due in January &February Especially with finance charges or high interest? Count on me to participate in Buy Nothing Day.

I'd never heard of that before....but that is AWESOME...but I assume you could still get gas, milk and prescriptions.

I always thought there should be a holiday when EVERYTHING is closed. (OK...not hospitals or the like). It should be on a day that has no religous significance to anyone...but no shopping or retsuraunts or anything are open..I always feel so bad for retail people who get stuck working holidays. Call it family day...no movie stores, no pizza places, nothing...everyone will just have to stay home, cook their own meal and spend a day with family and friends...or just alone.

Mindless consumerism? Hmmm? And where do you work that the consumer isn't a part of your pay check?

I don't plan on buying anything on Friday. You can't get me anywhere near a mall the day after Thanksgiving.

better yet "A BUY NOTHING MONTH". we can hold the hold economy to ransom. JUST IMAGINE. shops will be offering "REAL CHEAP SALE" all over the country. you could probably get a pair of NIKE for 3 dollars(that's probably what it cost anyway).
