My router states is connected....
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 2272 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 288 kbps
But it doesn't pickup an IP address from the exchange, although I have green lights on the router? I have also been advised by the amazing BT call centers..... that my username and password is correct! despite them giving me three different usernames and password in the past. What is wrong?

My PC picks up an IP address and I can comunicate with the router 100% but the ADSL port will not (I have tested 3 different routers now so it's not a hardware fault). When the exchange sees my router connected with username and password, it should allocte an IP address, however using my username/password the exchange doesent allocate an address. When I use the BT test account it does allocate the IP address but obviously I cant brouse the web with that account. BT have told me my account is fine, the line is fine etc but i'm struggling to believe them. Any idea what else I can do?

Cheers guys, all sorted and it's all BT's fault.
They jumpered someone elses broadband line to my number therefore the username and password for the BB was wrong on that line, hence why it wasn't allocating me an ip address! Sorted now!

What type of DSL modem are you using? Some models of Speedstream DSL modems are hybrids that dp PPPoE internally, so there's no username/password required in the router setup.

When you connect directly to your PC's network card and it works (assuming this works), what are your computers's TCP/IP settings?

Is it operating perfect and also you want to make a substitute? Run routeprint in a DOS or CMD field. The default gateway is the router IP. placed that IP on an internet browser. even as brought on for a login and password, purely click login with out entering something nor replacing the login and password. If that doesn't artwork attempt gadget for username and admin for password. examine your documentation for the producer's default username and password. If that has one way or the different replaced, you probable can reset the router. commonly there's a reset button. again examine your documentation.

If you are using the bt voyager 205 adsl router and your account is with BT Broadband then the settings for the router (not the PC)are Username : - broadband.user@btbroadband.com and the password is just left blank (there is no password here)

I don't really understand your question - The router issues the PC's IP address using DHCP - Assuming that the PC adapter is set to obtain the IP address automatically.

You need to reboot the PC after you connect it to the router to get this to work.
