I love it. It is sponsored by adbusters.com I believe. Down with mindless consumerism. Break the cycle. Make life more about ideas rather than things.

I love it too. The idea of having a whole day where you don't buy anything and you don't feel the need to spend, spend, spend, as our culture has become so obsessed with, is fantastic. However, there need to be the exceptions so we don't all sit around on our butts all day long. Fill up your car the day before and go to a park, get groceries the day before and make cookies from scratch. The point isn't to not spend money, it's to remember the value of money in our lives.

Totally stupid. People need and want stuff. The economy supplies it. The whole point of the economy is to organize resources in order to satisfy peoples needs. This crystallizes into a market system whereby companies make and sell stuff that people want. It's a good thing.

"Consumerism" means people buy things that they want and need. Odd that some people have decided that's bad.

The problem with complaints about "consumerism" is, it's not for you to judge whether I really "need" something I'm buying. You are in no position to judge; you do not possess the information needed to make that judgment.

If you believe in "Buy Nothing Day" you should live it every day of the year. Never buy anything. See how ya like that.

Good concept, but it would never work. Not enough people would actually do it to make enough of an impact. People need gasoline and groceries and they will buy them regardless of what else is going on.

I think it would be GREAT for Black Friday (Day after Thanksgiving)! Mainly because I work at Wal-Mart on that day and there will be billions of unhappy people with their needing this or that for their child. . .and of course, we won't have it.
