By far, my favorite (gothic) horror film and probably my favorite film of all time is 'The Innocents' from 1961, starring Deborah Kerr and based upon Henry James's novella 'The Turn of the Screw'. A governess in England travels to a remote country estate to take care of two children...who are really not all they seem. She eventually discovers disturbing secrets about their prior caretakers - who are deceased - and their chilling grip over the children from beyond the grave. Beautifully photographed in black and white, expertly scripted (Truman Capote wrote the screenplay), well-acted (Kerr is terrific and the boy, Martin Stephens, is a standout child performer)...you simply can't go wrong watching this creepy film on a dark, stormy night. Watch it and trust me...you will really enjoy it. Especially if you're a fan of films that don't 'show everything' but rather, hint at the scary stuff - which almost freaks you out even more!

The Shining starring Jack Nicholson (the original, not the TV re-make)

I know it wasn't true to the book, but it scared the be-Jesus out of me when it came out (I was only 10, so that may have had something to do with it) But my son watched it with me on the idiot box and it was edited and it scared him, too.

Plus, the exterior of the Overlook Hotel was Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon, and I nearly grew up on that mountain!

I don't really know, there are so many good ones to choose from. Since I am a big fan of that genre in particular, it is a little hard to choose just one favorite.

I don't have just one but I'll name a few: Haute Tension, Halloween series, Saw II, and Happy Birthday To Me.

Aliens. Ok technically it's sci-fi but it has lots of horror elements.

Thelma and Louise. From a male perspective, this is the hands down winner.
