Some people have reoccurring dreams about a small child, while others, from time to time, dream about unfamiliar children. The child in your dream could represent your inner self, or the child within. The dream could be based on childhood memories, and it may carry a specific message or bring up long-buried issues. On the other hand, the dream could simply be a pleasant memory. Children in dreams could symbolize a need and an eagerness to learn, simplicity, intuition, new endeavors and many other positive attributes of childhood. Occasionally, the child in your dreams may be pointing to your own childish ways. Therefore, consider all of the details and the tone of the dream before making an interpretation.
Dreaming about drowning is common and it invokes fear. However, it may have positive significance. This dream suggests to the dreamer that he may be overwhelmed by unresolved emotions, old issues, or a current crisis. It suggests that a release of the old is necessary in order to emerge and begin anew. This dream serves to awaken the dreamer to embrace and to effectively cope with problems and negativity in his life.

You could have anxiety about safety of your son. Due to the fact that there are news about kids not being safe in school bus, and here and there, it is no surprise you would dream something like that. However...
Drowning in a river = looking for help
schoolbag and books all round him = burden
The way you see your son is that you are feeling him having lots of burden in his school life. You can't help but projecting him being drowned because that to you it is a only way out to help him. Yes, you care about your son's safety, but on top of that, it is related to how you see your son's school life. Being drown could symbolize seeking support. The support that you are trying to give is not good enough and therefore, you projected him being drowned with things all around him. That signifies burden you see from him. Basically, you vent this out because you want release your helpless conscience

It is not as bad has it seems
it`s meaning is associated with you and your son but more so your thought, Water may be the symbol for the unconscious, so drowning may express a threat or fear of being swallowed up or taken over - overwhelmed - by unconscious forces. If there is such a threat, it will be from repressed or neglected contents of the unconscious. What have you been bottling up? Is someone within the family trying to take over your role as a mother ?

To see someone drowning in your dream, suggests that you are becoming too deeply involved in something that is beyond your control. Alternatively, it represents a sense of loss in your own identity.
To see a raging river, signifies that your life is feeling out of control.
To see children's books in your dream, memories and a collection of personal memories from your own childhood. It may also suggest your desire to escape from reality and retreat into some fantasy world.
To see children in your dream, signifies your own childlike qualities or a retreat back to a childlike state. It is an extension of your inner child during a time of innocence, purity, simplicity, and a carefree attitude. You may be longing for the past and the chance to satisfy repressed desires and unfulfilled hopes. Take some time off and cater to the inner child within. Perhaps there is something that you need to see grow and nurtured.

Ditto - I get them fairly regularly about my youngest daughter - this might be in part due to the fact that I took my eye of her for a second on a beach and had to pull her out of a rock pool. However I think it is a fairly common parental anxiety dream. Unpleasant and not easy to shake off when you wake up. The fact that you mention school bags perhaps suggest it is linked to a feeling of helplesness over not always being able to be there and protect him i.e. when at school.

that you are scared, naturally of anything like this happening. Its quite normal, i promise, in fact its kind of useful to always be on that level of alert when you are looking after young people, its hardwired, natural perental instincts...it shows that you are being a helathy parent, don't worry about it, if you do it might become an obsessions, so just accept it, part of your job now is to look after this boy and so far you've done a fine job i'm sure, he's still here and everything is in your favour for him and you to have a great long life togther, don't go imagining the worst becasue sometimes what we imagine too much of comes true, so chill, relax, enjoy.
Well done! Wish my mum was like you!

My mom used to believe that something bad happens to someone if they are seen in or near water bodies in dreams. But later on experience ( she also had similar dream) showed that nothing of that sort happens . So don't worry its just a dream.
