Many are Native American words, or derivatives. Like Iowa, the Dakotas, and Utah. Just google the names of the states separately, practically every state government has an "origins" website which explains the word.
And as a matter of fact -- Native Americans never named states, or even acknowledged their existence. To them, their continent didn't have official provinces, states, or similar dividers. Just "territories".

The easiest place to find this is an almanac--either the book or the online version. In the "US States" section, they will have the origin of every state's name. While many are Native American words, others are of different. For example, Montana and Colorado are Spanish words, while New York is obviously named for a city in northern England.

Some states already have names from one of the languages, but other states that would be impossible since there would be no translation.
