While yes they did go undefeated if you look at the majority of their schedule it was pretty weak. The 4 ranked teams that they beat two of them were also non-BCS teams who made the rankings by beating a ranked team and then constantly beating up on weaker teams while the highly ranked teams beat up on each other dropping them below. And the argument that they beat Oregon St. who beat USC might be a good one if Oregon St. did not get blowed over by Oregon and then barely beat Pitt 3-0 in their bowl game. Beating Alabama is worth definite points towards the voting but any body who watched that game could clearly see that was not a standard Alabama team and was playing very soft defense missing easy tackles and the loss of Andre Smith meant most of the line was starting in a brand new position that they had not previously played which resulted in bad blocking. The biggest reason to not vote Utah 1 in the AP is that Florida is currently ranked 1 and Oklahoma is currently ranked 2 and since they are facing off there is really no reason that the winner of that game should not be number 1.

The problem is systemic. You have a dysfunctional board of trustees, a fan base that still thinks Bear Bryant is stalking the sidelines, and an athletic department that couldn't pick a decent coach if their lives depended on it. Essentially, this is a program that's been slowly spiralling downward for 25 years. In another 15 years, it will be the equivalent of a Missouri or Wake Forest: Producing a decent team every few years, but not contendiing for a national championship.

poor coaching is one but not enough good players and poor recruiting is another. The SEC is very overrated this year and the wimpy SEC not wanting to play anyone outside their conference shows why we need a playoff.
Oh yeah, the mighty Florida Gators playing another 1AA team; and not even a good one. Oh wow, what a great team. Florida plays no one and they have 7 home games every year. Arkansas, the best SEC team was wiped out at home by a healthy USC team.

They don't suck. They can put together a great game on any given Saturday. They've played some hard teams, so don't judge them by their record. Although, they do need a new kicker and some changes in their coaching staff.

Because they want a dead bear to coach their team. Alabama fans and Maggots are the only thing I know of that can live off a dead bear for 20 years.

They lost Tyrone Prothro to injury. That guy was going to be an all American and then some. does anyone remember that catch last year where he caught the ball on the other side of the defender (meaning his arms were hugging the guy and the ball was in his hands)?!

the team doesnt suck. the coach sucks. we have the best players in college football. and the most talent but horrible coaching. once they get rid of the coaches and coornatiors and get somebody who really wants to be there we will win.
