Actually, we don't have all presidents on our currency.
We have Hamilton (secretary of the treasury) on the $10, Franklin (postmaster general) on the $100, Sacagewea (indian guide for lewis & clark) on the $1 coin and Susan B Anthony (feminist) on the $1 coin.
On previous issues of currency, there was also Salmon P. Chase on some high denomination bill ($100,000 or something).
On specie, we've had buffalos, Indians and Eagles on different coins.

The men and women on our currency (inc. Franklin ($100) and Hamilton ($10)) were those considered as those who served the country with some ground-breaking distinction...
...although some might have different opinions (esp. w/Andrew Jackson ($20))...!

I guess it's for the same reason why the UK has the Queen on its currency. They're historical figures.

Because our public school systems are so bad thats the only way kids will learn the Presidents.

Because they ones that we have chosen have had a huge impact on the world, and they are truly American.
We don't need to glorify the queen of england like the Canadians do.

Who would you rather have, Iranian Mullahs? We have honorable people's portraits on our currency to honor their memory.
