how is it possible for two regions with the same total yearly precipitation to have different climate ratios?

Easy -- say the total yearly rainfall is 24 inches.

Okay, in one place it rains 24 inches in one month -- and is dry the rest of the year.

In the other, it rains 2 inches per month, each and every month.

Extreme examples, but obviously these would be two VERY different climates!!
