Political correctness was originally started with the intention of showing respect. And don't get me wrong. I think that's a very good thing. However, sometimes it's taken too far. For example, I heard recently that it's no longer considered PC to refer to certain classes as being "remedial". Instead, they're now called "resource" classes. To say the least, it's ridiculous, because the purpose of these classes is to REMEDY the problems the students are having in certain subjects. Also, in a way, people's intelligence gets insulted by political correctness, because there's the underlying assumption that we don't have enough common sense to know what's respectful and what's not.

We are a nation of free speech. Unless that free speech offends someone's overly sensitive feelings. If someone is "hurt" by your comments, you need to keep your mouth shut.
The day of real men and women is over. I want to be a member of my grandfather's generation where if you didn't like it, you took it out back, or you agreed to never talk to each other again. Now, you risk being sued because you hurt someone's feelings.
Lawyers and judges that deal with these "hurt feelings" cases need to be disbarred. Seriously. It's only when we get our constitution back as a country that we'll be a juggernaut again.

PC is an attempt to re-write history and language to make it palatable or sensitive to "minorities." For example recently they wanted to build a 9-11 memorial featuring the three NY firemen raising the flag. Unfortunately there was one inconvenient fact. They were all white. So the designers of the memorial changed one of the three men to be black. I believe due to an outcry they reversed themselves. But it is an example of the silliness of PC in trying to re-write history to make it more sensitive to minority feelings.

Political correctness is just an excuse for people's behaviors, not taking responsibility and demanding that everyone accept those behaviors.
Political correctness will be the death of this Country.

Because we all need to get over ourselves and reallize that there are always going to be people that dont like us because of whatever reason, we are all different and we do not all like the same kinds of people. So everyone get overself and stop being whiney little babies that get offended all the time.

Are you asking why people believe in PC or are you saying that the PC movement is bad?
First, it was meant to make others feel better about what ever they consider their plight to be.
But it has gotten out of control and we now have PC terms that people use as excuses for their short comings.
I surely do not believe in ridicule of people, but some of the "terms" that have been invented are just silly.

Political correctness is pure thought control. It thrives because people are not honest in their use of language. They prefer not to harm people's feelings while trampling on facts and truth.

Political correctness is garbage. People are going to say what they want no matter what the only difference is they will do it at home where no one can see it. Most people have enough common sense to not say certain things on their own anyway. I dont agree with someone using racial slurs, but I feel that they should have the right to use them. I follow the thinking of it bothers you dont look at it.

A lot of things that people call "political correctness," is simple common courtesy and good manners. Too many individuals believe that free speech gives them the right to publicly insult other people's looks, beliefs, nationality, religion, race, sex, etc.
