This could explain the walking on water story. Consider the possibility. People have gone bodysurfing probably forever and maybe he just got the idea to take a plank into the water and caught a good wave. Nobody ever saw it before so the stories got started.

Thanks for answers. I hoped for more of them. I'm looking for possible origins to some of the bible stories. Something that may have actually occurred and then been embellished by people as they passed the stories by word of mouth for many years before they were written down. Mighty asked some fair questions back. As an admitted skeptic, I'd answer by saying that those details may well be some of the embellishments I mentioned. But thanks for giving me more to consider and answering with an open mind.

Perhaps, but he would seem the long board type. Somebody would have noticed that I think.

It's pretty hard to shred on a small plank... skimboarder maybe.

then explain peter, who got out of the boat and STOOD there on the water. then when he started to doubt god, he started to sink. explain that by your surfing hypothesis.

besides, how was jesus so good at surfing if it was his first time? i've seen people who have surfed for the first time and they can barely stand on a moving board, let alone surf some waves. besides, jesus would have had to have fallen off sometime, only to have fallen back into the water, not walking back into the boat as it says he did in the Bible.

It's better than the "first bare-footin'" theory.
