Take him on a shopping spree to his favorite sporting goods store, get him a gift card, buy him tickets to a sporting event. Take him to Borders or Barnes and Noble and let him pick out any 5 books he wants....DVDS, clothes (sports teams maybe), sports equipment

You say you want video games excluded - but have you considered a Nintendo Wii. The inovative controller means that the players can run around and be quite active.
If that's a definite no, no - why not get him some Soccer equipment.

I like the iPod suggestion. Then for special events, birthdays, Christmas, you can get him an iTunes card. If you get the 30GB or the 80 GB he can download TV shows, movies, videos, etc.

get him a i pod thats not a video game its music and if u absolutely want to get him an education thing get one of those fly notebooks and for the sports thing get him one of those throw the football throught the hole tables or basketball table thing that count how many you make. this a a website for that fly thing if u dont know what it is and it shows some prices

get him a skate board or a baseball signed by a famous player or something like that or a video game hes had his eye on for some time.... good luck:)

look it mostly depends on how the boy is like if the boy is cool,funny and bully then bye a skateboard and if the boy is polite ,silent and obedient then bye a good book with a nice moral

why do you want to exclude video games? because you believe the tripe you hear the media is shoving down everyone's throats?
give the boy what he wants...
if you feel your parenting is that frail.. and he's that prone to what the media claims happens to people when they do this or that.....

If he doesn't have these yet, get him an ipod video, or nano. You could get him a laptop, or a not to expensive plasma TV.
