he just needs to manage his money better. you should make him give you the money in cash so that you know he has it.

Any person that lives with a lover without being married is setting themselves up big time and is just plain foolish. The break up rate of people that live together is 81%!
He's using you big time. You need to move on and get the heck out of there ASAP or your going to ruin your credit and your money by writing bad checks to a landlord.
If your landlord will let you (look at the lease) then sublease it and get out of there.
Why would you write him a check for the rent and then him write one for the landlord? It's still going to bounce.
Forget the checks. Tell him to pay you in cash or cashiers check for his part of the rent. ALWAYS give him a typed receipt with date and the amount and how he gave it to you. Make sure you both sign it; watch his sign it. If he doesn't then sign it yourself and write on the paper he will not sign. Start keeping a log. What a mess.
What a knight in shining armor. Again dump him yesterday and dont' move in with a lover. Pick a better guy next time. With boyfriends like that, who needs enemies. You need to also see why you picked such a poor guy to be with. He's obviously not honest.
Judge Judy has gotten rich from situations like this. What a mess. Get out of it now or you will regret it for years to come.

Simply tell him "I Want NO More Checks From You. Please don't let money split us up!"
"Sorry, but from now on, I want CASH or we'll both have to move!"
If you don't show him how serious you are, next thing he'll do is lose his job and expect you to let him stay because you feel sorry for him.
I've seen this happen many times before. Please don't let it happen to you. Just remember "Nice guys/gals always finish Last!"
You should also ask him why his checks used to be good all the time and suddenly he has a money problems. Somehow I smell drugs or some other addicting habit. Does he like to gamble?

Explain to him that he has broken a realm of trust between the two of you and if he wants to restore that trust he will have to earn it. Explain that cash or money order (some banks a money order is easier, I know it sounds nuts) will instill trust with you and its a way to help your relationship from faultering farther. However, enough is enough and if he hesitates tell him, its either MY WAY (rent paid for sure) or the highway (you'll still have a place to live: remember your landlord will only take SO much!).
I wish you luck and the best of happiness.

My suggestion is to just ask him to pull out the cash from his checking account and you can deposit into your account, rather then him writing you a check. Sounds like a deadbeat and its costing you more money for him to be doing this, and I am sure it is costing him extra money too. Maybe if he gives you "X" amount from each pay check to ensure the $ is there for rent.
Good luck!!

Better yet, get the CASH from him 10 days ahead of time, deposit in your account and pay the rent. Word of warning, if he doesn't get help and organized, your money problems with him are just beginning.

You could do this, but I wouldn't want my name on an account with this guy, since he has a problem managing money, and he will be able to take money out of the rent account without telling you.
Request that he give you a money order every month, not a check. Money orders don't bounce.
Be careful of this guy. It's scary that his money is being spent without your knowledge. Could he be on drugs? Think about it.

If you open a separate account, that doesn't mean the same thing won't happen. In fact, with your name on the account, it will be your checks to the landlord that bounce instead of his. Make it simple, honey. Tell him you want cash only for his half. You can't bounce cash.

yea you should open an account just for rent. like you said that way atleast you know the money would be there. It would prevent it from going short in the future.
