You have to remove the jewelry but most likely yes. Unless you have caused too much damage to your milk ducts which would only be a problem if you have several piercings or a large gauge through each nipple. I had my nipples pierced and wore the jewelry until I went to the hospital to birth my first child. I took them out then along with the rest of my jewelry. You are often asked to take off all metal in case of emergency, metal conducts energy so you could get burned if you needed shocked or if something had to be cauterized. I breast fed 2 babies with no problems at all. I never did put the nipple rings back in, but as long as you removed them during the feedings you could put them back in in between. Make sure to keep the area and jewelry sterile, you wouldn't want to put something dirty back in your body for yours and your child's health. Your nipples and breasts will be very soar for at least the first month, so I doubt you will really want to put them in. Just remember you can not feed with them in, for 2 reasons . 1 the baby will not be able to latch on properly if at all. 2. the jewelry could come loose and choke your child.

I would think it might be a little painful at first, as nursing is usually painful until your nipples are conditioned to it. However, I don't think it will cause any problems for you. It might make it more difficult for your babe to latch on correctly or suckle. Just to make it easier for the baby, I would suggest taking it out during nursing. I am sure you don't want it to close up, so I would put the ring back after the baby is finished nursing. But talk to a lactation consultant; they would know more. You can find one by calling the maternity ward of the hospital you plan on using. They can get you in touch with the local chapter of La Leche League or a consultant. Good Luck.

Yes you can and you should. Like you said take the ring out first, but you should not have any problems. The only way you will know if you have any trouble will be to just breastfeed. But as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor I can say that you can bareastfeed your baby just fine. Good luck and enjoy your little one.

You should not breastfeed with a piercing in your nipple! If you havent had your baby yet, remove it now before you start breastfeeding. the leads in the ring could cause problems for the baby and feeding. Its the same as smoking and drinking and drugs, it comes out in your milk. As for the ring did your doctor tell you to remove it if your going to feed? It Is not safe for the baby!

There is nothing which prevents you from breast feeding your baby with a pierced nipple.
You can feed the baby as well as any other mother can do.
Just as a precautionary measure avoid wearing any kind of jewellery on your pierced nipple as long as you plan to breast feed the baby in order to not only avoid injury to baby's lips & tongue but also to prevent development of infection in your breast.

Take it out before breastfeeding. If there is anything in the way the baby won't be able to latch on properly and won't get enough food, then once a baby can't latch on, they will never get used to the breast. Also you would be VERY surprised how strong a baby can suck, it could even by chance, come out and choke your baby, so for all those reasons, I wouldn't risk it

You have to take the piercing out while breastfeeding. A baby shouldn't be sucking on any type of metal.

Why would you think it wouldn't be possible? Of course it's possible. Obviously the nipple decoration would have to be removed in case the baby swallowed it, plus it's unhygienic too.
